This News Release clarifies Scottsdale's Drought Management Plan and the deadline of January 1, 2023 for water hauling that will have an impact on the Rio Verde Foothills Community. In other words - those that currently live east of 136th St., either North or South of Rio Verde Dr., will no longer be able to haul water from Scottsdale.
This letter is an update on Scottsdale's position regarding water hauling to non-residents.
The letter says, "Should we be in a Tier 1 shortage in 2023, Scottsdale will impose its Stage 1 restrictions on water hauling."
As of the May 2021 U.S. Bureau of Reclamation report, a Tier 2 shortage is "Most Probable" for 2023.
Those opposing the formation of the Rio Verde Foothills Domestic Water Improvement District submitted a petition against the establishment of the RVF DWID to the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. This is the detailed response from those petitioning FOR the formation of the RVF DWID.
When a noncontiguous District submits its petition it must include "consent" from any town/city within 6 miles. Consent was obtained from Fountain Hills, Carefree and Scottsdale. We have included the transcript from Scottsdale's Council Meeting Item #13 since Scottsdale discusses Lake Mead's projected Tier 1 shortage declaration which will reduce Scottsdale's water availability, misinformation in the Rio Verde Foothills and emphasize the importance of RVF obtaining its own water source.
This is Scottsdale's official notice dated 10-6-2021, informing residents that water hauling would cease to non-residents at the end of 2022.
A follow-up letter dated 8-20-2022, was sent to those that self-haul outside of the City of Scottsdale notifying them that their accounts would be deactivated on January 1, 2023.
